This collections consists of documents related to the Knights of Columbus in Iowa, including records from the Iowa State Council of the Knights of Columbus and from numerous local councils. Records in the collection include: state council by-laws (1928-1994); state council convention program books (1949-2003); audio recordings from state conventions (1980-2001); handwritten ledgers of state officers and district officers; Supreme and state council directories (1918/19, 1966/67-1968/69,2000-2003); membership booklets; a membership survey (1969); correspondence and papers from various state deputies including Joe McCormick, W.J. McGowan, Gus Pusateri, Al Link, George Wright, L.D. Hurley, Roger Keppers, and James Baldridge; resolutions for the Third and Fourth Degrees (1998- ); various materials from state conventions including the deputy secretary's state of the state reports (1949-1996); booklets listing deceased members (1949-1975); newspaper clippings concerning the Knights of Columbus; insurance program brochures; miscellaneous trinkets and promotional items from state council conventions; and state bulletins and newsletters (1955-2005).

The Knights of Columbus originated in New Haven, Connecticut in 1882. The group's expansion to Iowa was the result of the efforts of Patrick McArdle, Illinois state deputy director. The first Iowa council was established in Dubuque in May, 1900 followed by council in Davenport in September of the same year.
